As of close on January 15, 2026

U.S. core CPI rose 2.6% in December, below consensus, with shelter, food, and recreation higher and used cars lower. In response, markets opened steady, and the base case remains a Fed hold. In D.C., Fed Chair Jerome Powell confirmed he is under a criminal probe tied to tensions with President Trump. Turning to tech, Oracle faces a bondholder lawsuit alleging it failed to disclose plans for $38B of AI-related debt following a $300B OpenAI deal, pressuring bond prices and pushing yields higher. Nvidia received formal Trump administration approval Tuesday to export H200 chips to China under third-party reviews, export caps, and strict non-military-use conditions, and separately hired Google veteran Alison Wagonfeld as its first CMO as quarterly sales reached $57B. Finally, Meta began cutting 1,000+ jobs in Reality Labs (~10% of staff) as it reallocates spend from metaverse projects toward AI wearables and AI-driven phone features.

We’ve just published our Monthly AI Deck for December 2025. Check it out here.
